The history of the Bridgwater Flower Show (now the Bridgwater Flower and Craft Show)

If you have a Flower Show story we’d love to share it … please email: blooming@bfcshow.org.uk

How it started: Bridgwater Flower Show began in 1891 when the Town Mayor called a meeting of interested (and wealthy) townspeople at Halswell Manor and started a collection which funded the first Show in a field in Taunton Road. That is why the Mayor remains as our President to this day! That Show is believed to have been the start of Bridgwater’s early closing on a Thursday, as the Mayor instructed the traders to put up bunting and close for the day!
